Community Earth Councils are a new global inter-generational movement being birthed in Minnesota. Small groups of elders (50+), youngers (ages 16-28) and all in between are working together to address social and environmental challenges at the local level. Community Earth Councils (CECs) build community, help young people find meaning and purpose, and provide elders with a way to give back, inspire, and impact the future. CECs are groups of 8 to 20 people who meet to study and practice the arts of mentorship, group facilitation, and social entrepreneurship.
Each CEC is uniquely created by its members and generates its own activities according to the interests, resources, and abilities of its members and the needs of their local community. Participants in a CEC explore and learn together how to bring vision into action.
I am currently the Council Keeper for the South River Visions Community Earth Council, created by residents in the Twin City suburbs south of the Minnesota River. Please contact me to get invited to our next monthly meeting.
One hundred Community Earth Councils are envisioned across the United States within 2009 and 500 around the world within three years. You can find further details about this inspired initiative at www.EARTHCOUNCILS.org.
“This expansive New Moon in Aquarius is a time of endings and beginnings. As a Solar Eclipse it chips away at old notions of competition to reframe our roles within an updated view of community. Bountiful Jupiter designs innovative models in which self-interest and the greater good mesh harmoniously and we recognize that what binds us together is much greater than what drives us apart.”http://www.stariq.com/NewMoonReport.htm
